After mastering the JLPT N5 kanji, you're ready to take your Japanese kanji game to the next level. JLPT N4. Let's go.
How Many Kanji For JLPT N4?
As usual, the JLPT official organizers do not have a specific list of kanji they publicly share with the public. Which kanji and how many are in the test vary from one year to another.
But on average, JLPT N4 contains around two times more new kanji to learn than in JLPT N5. You had between 80 and 100 kanji in JLPT N5 (our list contains 112 common kanji to make sure you're totally covered). In JLPT N4 you'll need double, meaning around 180 kanji.
Our N4 list below contains 176 kanji. With the 112 you learned in our N5 list, you'll know 288 kanji. With this amount of kanji, you should be able to read around 50% of texts in Japanese.
How to Memorize Kanji Fast
If you've already learned N5 kanji, you know it takes time and a lot of repetition before finally remembering the kanji.
